Move-to-earn is an innovative way of using technology to reward players in the form of cryptocurrencies or NFTs, just for working out. In these games, players’ movements are tracked with the help of technology. Move-to-Earn (M2E) applications help users to earn passive income by engaging themselves in a normal fitness routine. The move-to-earn gamification works in the same way as play-to-earn (P2E), wherein players have complete control over their in-game assets which can be swapped for crypto/fiat money following their terms.
The concept of move-to-earn is believed to have been developed by STEPN (GMT). The idea is now followed by other games such as Dotmoovs (MOOV) and Genopets (GENE) which also revolve around the concept of rewarding or tokenizing physical movements.
STEPN is one of the leading M2E games that is built on the Solana blockchain.
For STEPN, the participants are required to buy NFT sneakers. These NFT collectables can be minted and come in various designs, rarity levels, and quality. These virtual assets can be traded in NFT open markets. STEPN is built on the SOLANA blockchain and every NFT sneaker costs at least 10 SOL or roughly up to US$1,100.
Players have to buy NFT sneakers to be tokenized in these M2E apps. Thus, whenever a player goes for simple walking, running, or jogging activity, the app just starts tracking their movements and converts them into in-game tokens.
Some examples of M2E games include MetaGym (MGCN), STEPN (GMT, Genopets (GENE), Dotmoovs (MOOV), Sweatcoin (SWEAT), Step (FITFI), OliveX (DOSE) and Calo (CALO). The M2E games can have their own cryptocurrencies and involve tasks like finishing a workout, walking, or winning a race.
M2E games have gained popularity since they are an easy ways to earn cryptocurrency but also because they motivate you to work out.
