Will Google’s New AI “Bard” Dethrone ChatGPT In The War Of AIs?

Alphabet Inc, the parent company of Google, is preparing to create a chatbot service called “Bard”, which will be powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). This comes as a retort to Microsoft Corporation in their competition to lead a new wave of technology. Before being made available to the general public in the upcoming weeks, Bard will be first tried out by a handful of testers, the company stated.
Google Launches AI Chatbot Bard
Bard is built on top of Google’s existing large language model known as Lamda, which was described by one of its engineers as being so human-like in its responses that he believed it was “sentient”. Additionally, along with Bard, the tech giant announced the addition of new AI technologies to its existing search engine.

In a blog post, Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that he wanted Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) services to be “bold and responsible,” and will initially operate on a “lightweight” version of Lamda, which requires less power. However, Pichai left out on his explaining how Bard would be prohibited from distributing anything that is dangerous or abusive.
The Indian-born tech CEO was quoted as saying:
Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence, and creativity of our large language models.
War Of The AIs
The revelation made by Google comes after widespread rumors that Microsoft is planning to integrate the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT into its Bing search engine. This follows after the software juggernaut made an investment of many billions of dollars in OpenAI, the company that developed the ever-growing ChatGPT.
In its current form, ChatGPT is free for use but the company does incur a small expense each time someone uses it. OpenAI just recently made the announcement that it will be offering a subscription model in addition to its free access. As of now, the AI chatbot is able to answer questions based on information gleaned from the internet in 2021, when it was made operational for the first time.
Although, Google has the best minds, capital bandwidth and cutting-edge tech at its disposal — OpenAI still has been able to carve out its niche in the AI sector of the tech industry. Now, whether Google’s Bard and ChatGPT become 21st century’s David vs Goliath battle, is something that time will only tell.
