Just-In: Bored Apes (BAYC) Suffers Second Social Media Account Hack This Month

Bored Apes Yacht Club (BAYC) has been the victim of another compromise. The project’s Instagram account has been hijacked by hackers. 

BAYC Informs Public Of Potential Instagram Hack

The hackers proceeded to share links to a fake airdrop mint using the account. In a tweet, the BAYC team informed market participants to steer clear of all NFT minting offers and links the account shares.

There is no mint going on today. It looks like BAYC Instagram was hacked. Do not mint anything, click links, or link your wallet to anything, the tweet said.

At the moment, it is still unclear if any users have lost any assets in the compromise. However, market participants have voiced concern over the event, especially as it is the second compromise that the project’s social media accounts have suffered this month.

On the first day of this month, the Discord server of the project was hacked, leading to users losing their Apes. However, the BAYC server was not the only NFT account that was attacked on the day. Other NFT-centric Discord servers, such as Doodles, Shamanzs, and Nyoki, that use the same tool saw similar phishing attacks.

Following the current compromise, one market participant, “@dingdingETH” has suggested that the project reimburses all victims of the hack. There have been suggestions to also boost the security of the project.

Yuga Labs gearing up metaverse launch

The hack is coming shortly after YUGA labs, the owner of the NFT project, dropped an update about its planned metaverse project. According to the post, the project will be unveiled on April 30.

Yuga Labs has also teased that there will be one more series of characters – Koda – that will be part of the metaverse projects.

Meanwhile, the price of ApeCoin has been on the rise. The recently launched token which will power the project’s metaverse ecosystem is trading at around $17.67, up 2.4%. ApeCoin is up 30.3% in the last month per data from crypto rank.
