Marvel Studios to Release its First Digital Collectible NFTs

By Godfrey Benjamin

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, popularly known as Marvel Studios is set to recreate the sensations it offers its fandom globally, this time, with the power of blockchain technology. According to the official announcement, Marvel Studios will be partnering with VeVe, an online marketplace for licensed digital collectibles to launch a whole range of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) for its superhero franchises.

NFTs is a big innovation for unique digital arts and is gaining traction amongst creators today. While a number of institutions and brands are already embracing NFTs, which typically helps register the ownership of digital works on the blockchain, the embrace by Marvel studios signifies the attainment of maturity by the new innovation.

Marvel is already renowned for producing action-packed movies with superhuman characters some of whom include Captain America, Thor, and Wonder Woman amongst others. The plan to explore NFT characters will feature the creation of rare or even secret, super-rare digital comic books, 3D statues, and other coveted items. There is no concrete confirmation at this time as to what characters the duo will be showcasing as an NFT, however, the company said more announcements will be released in the near future.

Marvel Seeks to Recreate its Fandom Outlook

The proposed launch of its NFT feature is an avenue for Marvel to recreate the outlook of its fandom. A lot comes with the launch of an NFT. It does not just signify a bullish bet of the underlying blockchain technology, it requires a marketplace that will boost the commerce around the minted collectibles. All these will promote and bring Marvel’s fans closer to the characters they see on screen, albeit, in a closer manner.

“Marvel has been exploring with VeVe how to make the Marvel digital collecting experience as special as the physical experience, and we are excited to finally be able to share this vision with our fans,” said Marvel Entertainment’s VP of business development and strategy Daniel Fink.

“Through VeVe’s platform, we hope to expand the limits of what Marvel fandom can be, starting with personal and interactive digital collectibles that, through NFTs, fans can truly collect, share, and enjoy in a way that they have not been able to do before.”

Interacting with the Marvel NFTs will be made possible through VeVe’s app platform that is available on iOS and Android
