Crypto News Updates: US Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler released an official statement on Friday, admitting that an “authorized party” breached the agency’s X account to make a fake announcement that spot Bitcoin ETFs were approved. While the unauthorized party had made a second post on X, that only said “$BTC”, it was later deleted.

The OG cryptocurrency Bitcoin plunged over 7% in the last 24 hours, falling to $42,667. Smaller coins, or altcoins, also nosedived, sending the global crypto market cap tumbling to $1.68 trillion.

Meanwhile, some customers of Vanguard are closing their accounts and transferring their assets to other platforms that provide Bitcoin ETFs, as a dissatisfaction over the lack of available options has created a sour taste for them. This comes after Vanguard pulled out existing bitcoin futures products from its brokerage offerings.
