Olympic Medalist Names Donald Trump and Elon Musk in Lawsuit

Khelif’s Paris-based attorney, Nabil Boudi, said in a statement that the lawsuit is filed against Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), and famous writer J. K. Rowling. The lawsuit claims that these public figures were part of a ‘misogynist, racist and sexist’ smear campaign against the Olympic champion after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The controversy was sparked when Khelif’s opponent, Angela Carini, pulled out of their boxing match, prompting heated debates on X regarding gender identity and equity in women’s sports.

Elon and J. K. Rowling expressed their opinion about the incident, which in its turn led to more harassment of the Olympic champion. According to Khelif’s lawyer, these remarks together with the feature of social media that has millions of users contributed to harassment of Khelif on the basis of gender and nationality.

Trump got involved in the discussions as well when he posted a photo from the match and declared that men should not be allowed to compete with women.

Ongoing Investigation and Potential Legal Outcomes

At the moment, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office is examining the criminal complaint. Although Musk and J. K. Rowling are the main subject of interest, Donald Trump may also become the object of attention as the investigation continues.

The lawsuit has been filed against social media companies, including X, for enabling the alleged harassment. Under French law this enables investigators to ascertain which entities, whether individuals or companies, can be held liable.

During the course of the investigation, Khelif’s attorneys have suggested that even though the former US President was not mentioned in the initial complaint, he could play a pivotal role in the case given his public utterances on the subject.

Labor Lawsuit Involving Musk and Trump

This legal battle is just one of the many problems that Musk is facing at the moment. In the recent past, the United Automobile Workers (UAW) union filed a labour lawsuit against both Donald Trump and Elon Musk of intimidating workers during a livestream conversation.

Consequently, UAW accuses Trump of breaking the law by advocating for the dismissal of striking workers, which he said was something Musk supported.

Amid these developments, Elon Musk was also being threatened with legal action by the European Union. Breton had written to Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, expressing concerns that the content on X is dangerous to EU citizens under the DSA, and that legal steps would be taken if it continues. However, the letter was not endorsed by Ursula von der Leyen, the Commission’s president as reported by Coingape.
