Ripple Co-Founder Chris Larsen Backs Democratic Nominee Kamala Harris
After Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse’s support to Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris raised eyebrows in the crypto community. Previously, former Ripple’s board member Gene Sperling also left the White House to join Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign.
Eighty-eight current and former top executives and investors have endorsed Harris for president in a new letter, CNBC reported on September 5. Among these include high-profile CEOs of public companies, including Michael Lynton, chairman of Snap, Aaron Levie of Box, and Jeremy Stoppelman of Yelp.
This is the first time some executives such as Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, James Murdoch, Forrester de Rothschild, and sports magnate Ted Leonsis have publicly endorsed Harris since she became the Democratic presidential nominee in July.
Some prominent people in Silicon Valley who continue to back Harris include venture capitalist Ron Conway, entrepreneur Mark Cuban, and former LinkedIn CEO Reid Hoffman.
Mark Cuban revealed that he talks 3-4 times a week with the Harris campaign and is confident about agreeing to the best approach to taxing the wealthy and other areas. He had lost hope in Donald Trump’s emergence as a pro-business presidential candidate.
Reactions From Crypto Community and Prediction Markets
Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen came as a big surprise to the crypto and XRP community. Some even see it as a welcome move by Ripple despite Kamala Harris campaign not directly accepting crypto payments. Coinbase chief financial officer Alesia Haas revealed that the Future Forward PAC is accepting crypto donations for Harris’ campaign.
Polymarket data shows no change in odds from 53% for Donald Trump to win the elections, but Harris’ chance has dropped 1% to 45 today. Bettors continue to bet for Trump to become US president in elections in November.
Recently, Trump also took a lead over Harris in Arizona electoral votes, with 45.7% to 45.3% respectively. Polymarket also shows 64% bets in favor of Trump.
