AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) is on the verge of ending the long wait for Dogecoin and Shiba Inu fans. Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Theatres, announced that customers can start paying with the two dog-themed memecoins from the new month.
DOGE and SHIB pump as AMC makes an exciting announcement
In a tweet, Aron revealed that as a result of the company’s integration of BitPay, AMC Theatres were ready to start accepting DOGE and SHIB. The announcement was first made in November of 2021.
Payments using BitPay will go live on AMC’s website on March 19. By April 16 or a few days earlier, BitPay will be integrated on AMC’s mobile app as well, the CEO informed his followers.
The announcement has been met with accolades from the communities of both joke coins. Billy Markus, a co-founder of Dogecoin, complemented the move. He noted that it would be fun to pay with DOGE at AMC Theatres.

The community has been anticipating the development for a while now. AMC began accepting Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC) in November last year. At the time, DOGE was already in the pipeline. It added SHIB to its plans following a Twitter poll in which the SHIB community overwhelmingly voted for AMC to accept SHIB as well.
The latest announcement has also coincided with a pump in the price of DOGE and SHIB. On the day, SHIB is trading at $ 0.000026, up 8.91%. DOGE has also surged 6.62% in the last 24 hours to be trading at $$ 0.13.
Memecoins have been seeing unprecedented adoption
Dogecoin and Shiba Inu have not been left behind among cryptocurrencies that are seeing more mainstream adoption. Per a report from The Street this week, Dogecoin has been speculated to be coming to eBay – an e-commerce giant.
The CEO of the company, Jamie Iannone, said that eBay could make an official announcement of the integration on its upcoming investor day on March 10. Recently as well, a Dogecoin-themed virtual restaurant launched in Dubai.
SHIB as well has seen timely integrations by Newegg, Travala, and CoinGate in the last three months.
