The lion’s share of XRP coins is held by Ripple, Executive Chairman Chris Larsen, and CEO Brad Garlinghouse, both of whom were cleared of all charges by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in October. It’s worth mentioning that crypto exchanges, such as Binance, Kraken, Uphold, and Bitbank also hold significant amounts of XRP.

The table above shows that one of Ripple’s addresses holds about 1.96 billion XRP coins in a single wallet, making it the largest XRP holder. The second largest address is also a wallet associated with Ripple.

XRP coins held by centralized exchanges are typically customer deposits kept in reserves. For instance, Binance is one of the largest XRP holders. The top 10 addresses on the BNB chain alone hold 168 million XRP, accounting for over 60% of the total XRP supply of the coin’s BEP20 variety.

Unlike most cryptocurrencies, XRP is pre-mined, with the total supply of XRP coins limited to 100 billion. When the project initially launched, Ripple co-founders, Chris Larsen, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Brito received 20 billion XRP. Jed quit the company back in 2014 and has offloaded his entire XRP holdings since. However, other co-founders are still holding on to most of their XRP.

Larsen is reportedly one of the largest holders with over 5 billion XRP. At least five addresses, cumulatively holding 2.5 billion XRP, are directly linked to him. Meanwhile, Ripple CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, also owns a significant amount of XRP, although the exact figures are not in the public domain.
