OpenAI Launches Next Gen AI Model GPT-4; Calls It The Most Advanced System Till Date
OpenAI has announced the release of its latest model, GPT-4, which is an updated version of its existing GPT-3.5 on which the famous AI chatbot ChatGPT was built. The new model is able to produce text outputs by reading images and pictures in addition to inputs from textual content as well. The business asserts that the model performs at a human-level across a variety of professional and academic criteria.
GPT-4 Now Reads Images
The AI firm asserts that the model can handle challenging issues with better accuracy and is more innovative and creative than it has ever been. It can now understand text as well as image input, but the only way it can communicate back is through text. OpenAI also warns that the systems continue to have many of the same issues as earlier language models, such as the propensity to make up information (also known as “hallucinate”) and the ability to generate content that can be damaging and violent.

OpenAI notes that in casual conversations, the distinction between GPT-3 and GPT-4 may turn out to be subtle, however, the core difference pops when the complexity of the task reaches a significant threshold — and that is where GPT-4 turns out to be more reliable, creative and “able to handle much more nuanced instructions than GPT-3”.
While talking about responses to disallowed content — a strong criticism faced by the developers since ChatGPT’s inception — the team was quoted as saying:
We spent 6 months making GPT-4 safer and more aligned. GPT-4 is 82% less likely to respond to requests for disallowed content and 40% more likely to produce factual responses than GPT-3.5 on our internal evaluations.
GPT-4 Already Introduced In Disguise
However, in an unexpected turn of events, OpenAI revealed that the new generation language model had been hiding in plain sight all along. As it turns out, Microsoft disclosed that its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Bing Chat, co-created with OpenAI, was running on GPT-4.
Other early-bird users include Stripe, which uses GPT-4 to scan commercial business websites and relay a summary to customer support staff, and Duolingo, which integrated GPT-4 into a new language learning subscription tier.
Premium customers of OpenAI can access GPT-4 instantly through ChatGPT Plus, and developers can join a waitlist to gain access to the API at this point in time.
