From buying and making moments, this is all possible with Thailand’s new crypto pilot program, TouristDigiPay.
Bangkok, Beaches, and More With TouristDigiPay
No doubt the beaches and the city life of Bangkok are mesmerizing, but it’s even better if the modern traveller can pay with crypto, the digital money. Interestingly, Thai officials have thought of this problem’s solution with TouristDigiPay.
Reuters reports that Thailand has come up with a smart tourism boosting plan with TouristDigiPay, which is an 18-month-long pilot program, launched on 18, 2025. Considering the rapid growth of cryptocurrencies and their demand due to fast and secure transactions, Thai officials have come up with a crypto-friendly alternative to scan, receive, sell, and more.
Now, without the hassles of the dollar-to-baht conversion before heading to their travel destination, travellers can enjoy the delicacies and the beauty of the country with this pilot program. True to its name, it is a digital crypto payment system, allowing foreign tourists to simply convert their top cryptocurrencies into Thai baht and spend them nationwide.
Moreover, it would operate within a regulated “sandbox” framework. This way, it would ensure safe and compliant usage.

Now, before you start dreaming about your vacation, let’s look through some of the important details, including the eligibility, conversion rate, and more.
Who’s Eligible for TouristDigiPay?
As simply stated, this pilot programme is only accessible to foreign tourists, that is, people outside of Thailand. More importantly, it’s a temporary setup, as it would only run for 18 months. New changes can happen once the pilot period ends.
Now, even after being a foreigner, a few more things also need to be done, including opening an account with a digital asset provider, especially with Thai-approved crypto exchange platforms, as conversion will take place through them.
After that, the individual needs to open an account with an e-money provider that is licensed by the Bank of Thailand. Notably, both these steps would require users to fill out Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML).
How Does This Work, and How Much Can You Spend With This?
The primary function of the TouristDigiPay is to convert tourists’ crypto into baht and let them make payments. As the individual transfers their cryptocurrency into the application, that crypto would be exchanged into baht, after which it will be stored in the “Tourist Wallet,” a digital account which can be easily used for QR-based payment to locals and merchants.

However, it is still not a direct crypto payment method. Besides, there’s also a spending limit of ฿50,000 per month to general merchants, which is equivalent to $1,375. For verified larger merchants, the limits expand to ฿500,000 per month (~$13,750 USD).
Now the surveys from the Thailand Government Portal reveal that on average tourists reportedly spend around ฿50,900 ($1,400) per trip. Interestingly, this sits within the spending limit of this crypto payment system. So if you wish to have hassle-free digital payments, TouristDigiPay can be a considerable option.
