Who is Dan Gallagher?

Dan M. Gallagher is a well-known personality in the crypto industry, as he is the Chief Legal Officer of Robinhood, one of the most popular investment platforms. This Robinhood CLO poised to replace the SEC Chair news came to notice recently, and many are anticipating seeing this transition due to the constant hatred for Gary Gensler. Over the years, the SEC has been challenging the crypto industry, and many believe that this is what is holding it back.

Gallagher is a 52-year-old American lawyer who served as one of the SEC’s commissioners, making him one of the five commissioners. More importantly, President Obama appointed him in 2011, where he was active till 2015. He has also spent some time as a deputy director and co-acting director of the Division of Trading and Markets.

Additionally, Dan is one of the advisory persons for the Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. However, he was not only involved in the Government sector, as he had his first few jobs in private before turning to government in 2006. Later, he again transitioned back to private after ten years in service. He is visualized as a better SEC chair in place of Gary, with his diversified career and experience.

Even Dan has criticized Gary’s working methods. In one interview with MM, he revealed that he has known the SEC chair for a long and has a huge respect for him. However, if he had been in the same position, he would have done things differently, like adding tailored rules and introducing a baseline registration system, for crypto exchanges and brokers.

Will Dan Gallagher Replace Gary Gensler?

The ex-President Donald Trump has openly promised to fire Gary in his presidency, which creates challenging situations for the SEC Chair. It happened when Trump revealed that he was not aware of Gary Gensler’s unpopularity. Even netizens also believed that Dan Gallagher would resonate more with the Trump administration, opening the possibility of this happening. However, this is just a rumor with no real acknowledgment or revelation.

This rumor began with the Politico report on the potential candidates for running the SEC, where Dan Gallagher was the first reference. The report further mentioned that a former SEC official has called Dan a natural choice and included many other references favoring him.

However, there is one concern, as the Robinhood Vs. SEC legal dispute might weigh down this decision. There are also no clear hints from Dan Gallagher about leaving Robinhood and joining SEC for now. However, he did appreciate people acknowledging him for this position, and he hoped for the best candidate to get the position.

Regardless, there are a few more nominees for this position, like K Street,  Chris Giancarlo (also nicknamed cryptoDad), Robert Stebbins, and many others.
