U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an AI executive order that aims to create frameworks to promote innovation while also addressing the cyber threats posed by AI models. This comes as AI startups Anthropic and OpenAI look to go public in the U.S., with valuations of up to $1 trillion.

Trump Signs AI Executive Order On Innovation And Security

President Trump signed an executive order aimed at promoting advanced AI innovation and security. The order focuses on upgrading American systems for advanced AI. Section 2 of the order directs the key agencies to form an AI cybersecurity clearinghouse in collaboration with the AI industry and operators of critical infrastructure.

This clearinghouse will be responsible for identifying vulnerabilities in government systems, coordinating remediation efforts, and providing patches. This section of the AI executive order also directs the Committee on National Security Systems to prioritize the cyber defense of National Security Systems.

This comes amid concerns about the cyber threat that AI models pose. As CoinGape reported, Anthropic’s Mythos model had sparked concerns about potential crypto hacks, with firms such as Coinbase and Binance at one point seeking access to the AI model to detect flaws in their systems.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Trump’s signing of the AI executive order comes as AI startups Anthropic and OpenAI seek to go public in the U.S. These firms could list at valuations exceeding $1 trillion.

CoinGape reported that Anthropic has confidentially filed for an IPO with the SEC. OpenAI is also reportedly preparing to file for an IPO and could do so in the coming months, following the court’s ruling in its favor in the lawsuit against Elon Musk.

Framework To Promote AI Security

The AI executive order also directs key agencies to develop and maintain a classified benchmarking process to assess the advanced cyber capabilities of AI models. They are also to determine the extent to which they can designate such models as a “covered frontier model.”

Furthermore, these agencies are to design a voluntary framework with AI developers through which developers can engage the Federal Government to determine which models under development meet the designation of “covered frontier model.” These developers will also be mandated to provide the Federal Government with access to covered frontier models.

The AI executive order also stipulates that the framework will enable a collaboration between the Federal Government and these developers to select trusted partners that will have early access to covered frontier models. Key stakeholders such as Elon Musk, whose SpaceX also filed for an IPO, have also continued to sound the importance of AI safety and the need for stricter regulations.

SpaceX notably recently partnered with Anthropic to provide compute to the AI startup. Musk stated that they will provide compute to companies acting in good faith and that they reserve the right to reclaim the compute if these companies’ AI engages in actions that harm humanity.
