Highlights

  • President Trump said that he will not sign the Housing bill as the Senate has failed to pass the Save America Act.
  • The housing bill includes a CBDC ban until 2031.
  • The bill will become law at midnight as the president did not veto the bill.

President Donald Trump has said that he will not sign the housing bill, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, as the Senate has failed to pass the Save America Act, which he continues to push for. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act notably includes a CBDC and is still on course to become law despite the president’s refusal to sign the bill.

Trump Says He Won’t Sign Housing Bill

In a Truth Social post, the president said he would not sign the housing bill, which Congress passed last month and sent to the White House. He explained that he was doing this in protest over the fact that the Senate is not capable of passing the Save America Act, despite it polling at 97% among the Republican Party.

As CoinGape reported earlier, President Trump delayed signing the bill last month. Back then, he said he wouldn’t sign it until Congress passed the “desperately needed” Save America Act.

The Act is a piece of legislation that will require Photo ID verification for citizens to vote in federal elections. “THE SAVE AMERICA ACT’S non-passage is CRAZY, and a serious threat to any politician who votes against it!” Trump said.

Meanwhile, the housing bill is critical to the crypto industry because it includes a provision barring the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC until 2031. It was worth noting that Trump had before signed an executive order that bars federal agencies from undertaking any action to establish a CBDC.

Bill Still On Course To Become Law

The House bill is still on course to become law at midnight despite President Trump’s refusal to sign it. This is because the president didn’t veto the bill either, although he still has until midnight to do so.

A White House official confirmed that the president won’t veto the bill, allowing it to automatically become law without his signature. Anti-crypto Elizabeth Warren criticized President Trump after he decided not to sign the bill.

“Donald Trump cares so little about bringing down YOUR housing costs that he’s refusing to sign the biggest housing bill in 30 years,” she said in a X post. She added that the good news is that the bill will become law anyway. Interestingly, the senator is among Democrats who have called for hearings into Trump’s crypto holdings even as the Senate looks to pass the CLARITY Act.
