Cardano News: Leios Proposal Passes Ahead of June Testnet Launch
Highlights
- The Leios proposal has passed with a majority vote of 84% from the DReps.
- This is one of 6 proposals from Input Output that has been approved.
- This development comes ahead of the network's testnet launch in June.
The Leios proposal has passed with majority support from delegated representatives (DReps), representing a positive for the Cardano ecosystem, as developers aim to increase the network’s throughput. This also comes ahead of the Leios testnet launch in June.
Cardano’s Leios Proposal Passes With 84% Yes Votes From DReps
Cexplorer data show that the Consensus Initiative (Leios) has passed, with over 84% of the DReps voting yes. This paves the way for the release of the treasury ask of 27.7 million ADA to increase the network’s throughput.
As CoinGape reported, the Consensus initiative is one of nine proposals that Input Output put forward in April for a governance vote. The firm noted that Leios will help achieve the 2030 Vision to scale the Cardano network from 800,000 monthly transactions to over 27 million.
This development also notably comes ahead of the Leios testnet launch on June 23. Input Output mentioned in the proposal that the funds from the treasury will continue the Leios development beyond the current budget cycle. During the current cycle, the developers demonstrated initial throughput on an alpha, feature-complete implementation while deploying Leios on a dedicated public testnet.
Furthermore, Input Output added that the 2026/2027 cycle will focus on maturing Leios from prototype to mainnet-ready, as the upgrade progresses through Software Readiness Levels 5 to 8. The firm has indicated that the Leios upgrade could go live on the Cardano mainnet by the end of the year.
Five Other Input Output Proposals Pass
Five other proposals that Input Output put forward have also passed. This includes the Cardano Maintenance Initiative, Cardano Upgrades, Higher Assurance Technical Collaboration, Developer Experience Initiative, and the proposal to enhance Plutus, Performance, Correctness, and Usability.
Notably, the Plutus upgrade focuses on making the top layer-1 network’s smart contract platform easier to build on, more cost-effective, and more rigorously verified. The treasury ask for the proposal was 11.8 million ADA.
Meanwhile, the Pogun proposal, which focuses on providing an end-to-end Bitcoin DeFi solution, is one of the three proposals from Input Output that failed to pass. Only 32.4% of the DReps voted in favor of this proposal.
The ADA price is up amid these developments. The altcoin is currently trading at around $0.24, up almost 2% today, according to TradingView data. However, the token remains down over 26% year-to-date (YTD).
