Highlights

  • Pi Network price is down today despite gains across the broader crypto market.
  • The Pi Core team has announced that the final planned upgrade will take place on September 15.
  • Pi Network price faces weak buy-side pressue if there will be no bullish catalysts to support future gains after this planned upgrade.

Pi Network (PI) price is down by 1.04% today, August 24, to trade at $0.089 at the time of writing. The drop contrasts with the broader crypto market where Bitcoin (BTC) price has gained to $79,000 after the US Treasury announced a $1 trillion bond buyback.

Pi Network’s drop comes despite the core team completing the Protocol 26 upgrade on August 11. That was the second-to-last planned upgrade on Pi Coin, with the last one set to occur on September 15.

These upgrades began in February 2026, and each one of them has often caused gains for Pi Coin. However, with the final upgrade being three weeks away, the coin could lack another bullish factor to drive gains.

Final Planned Upgrade Looms on September 15

Pi Network has announced that it will complete the Protocol 27 upgrade in September. In an X post, the team said that this upgrade will improve security and flexibility on the network. They also added that Protocol 27 will introduce new features to the network.

A previous CoinGape Pi Network price analysis noted that the previous Protocol 26 upgrade boosted the sentiment around Pi Network, and the price even outperformed the broader market that was mostly flat at the time.

The same gains could be seen on September 15 after Protocol 27 goes live considering that this final upgrade focuses on boosting smart contract security, which could boost the adoption of PI.

Pi Coin Price Forecast After Protocol 27 Goes Live

The price of Pi Coin has been trading within an ascending triangle pattern on the one day chart. This pattern suggests that the trend could change from bearish to bullish if the price can close above resistance.

The resistance in Pi Coin’s triangle pattern lies at $0.097. PI is currently trading 9% below this resistance as buying pressure fades and crypto traders exit coins with weak gains and opt for those making more gains.

If buying pressure returns ahead of Protocol 27 and Pi Network price closes above the resistance of $0.097, it could move to $0.10 next.

However, after the initial hype around the network upgrade fades and buyers turn into sellers, the long-term Pi Network price forecast will turn bearish and PI could drop to its all-time low of $0.070.

Still, if this final upgrade coincides with the rising adoption of Pi Network, the bullish momentum shown by the MACD line that is positive could help PI avoid this drop to the record low of $0.070.
