Highlights

  • Kalshi and Polymarket's combined volume surged 75% to $44.8B in June, driven by World Cup prediction markets.
  • Kalshi's World Cup winner market drew over $832M in bets, with 35% of positions backing France at 39% odds.
  • Today's France-Spain semi-final marks peak liquidity before the tournament settles around July 19–20.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has turned prediction markets into one of the most active trading arenas on the planet. Combined volume on Kalshi and Polymarket surged 75% to $44.8 billion in June, according to Bitcoin Foundation data. As France prepares to face Spain today (July 14, AT&T Stadium, Dallas), Polymarket’s flagship World Cup winner market has already crossed $4 billion in trading volume, a record for a single sports event on the platform. France is the market’s top pick at 39% odds to lift the trophy.

Polymarket and Kalshi Set New Benchmarks as World Cup Fuels $832M Betting Frenzy

Kalshi alone saw its monthly volume jump 87.4% to $31.5B in June, while Polymarket’s non-US platform pulled in $10.26B.

Kalshi’s World Cup winner market drew more than $832 million in bets, with roughly 35% of positions placed on France. Individual match contracts on Polymarket attracted between $500K and $2M per game.

CoinMarketCap’s latest odds data (July 14, 2026) shows France at 39%, England at 22%, Spain at 21%, and Argentina at 17% to win the tournament.

Spain’s strong run has already triggered ripple effects in crypto, as covered earlier, Spain’s and Argentina’s World Cup runs triggered fan token burns, showing how closely on-chain activity tracks tournament momentum.

Polymarket operates on-chain via Polygon and USDC, making it a direct crypto play. Kalshi, by contrast, is CFTC-regulated and fiat-focused for US users.

The gap between both platforms creates arbitrage opportunities that active traders are already exploiting, according to analyst discussions flagged by Flat DeFi on X.

Today’s France-Spain Semi-Final Is a Peak Liquidity Moment for Prediction Markets

A French win today would likely push their odds higher heading into the final, while a Spanish victory could trigger sharp swings across the entire prediction market’s landscape. The tournament wraps around July 19–20, giving traders less than a week of peak liquidity before final settlement.

Football experts noted on X that Polymarket’s World Cup winner contract alone exceeded $2B, a milestone that tracks the $5B prediction market boom previously reported as the tournament entered its final rounds.

Before today’s kickoff, traders can also use CoinGape’s FIFA World Cup Predictor to model how different results could shift market positioning.

Legal pressure remains a risk. More than a dozen US state authorities have sued both Kalshi and Polymarket, accusing them of offering unlicensed sports betting. The platforms, backed by the CFTC, argue federal regulation takes priority.

Those legal battles could reach the Supreme Court. For ongoing coverage, CoinGape’s prediction markets hub tracks the latest developments across the space.
