ChangeNOW is hosting a private side event during TOKEN2049 Singapore. It is called Retrofuture Soiree, and unlike standard side events, it won’t feature any panels. It won’t have any presentations, and there will be no conference-style agendas.

The focus is on leisure, with a format planned as an evening of drinks, food, music and conversation. Only crypto industry attendees can join this event. This event is a far cry from the standard TOKEN2049 week that’s usually crowded with side events that are often all about pitches.

A Side Event Without the Conference Format

The event will take an informal approach. There will be no stage content, and it is being hosted by two ChangeNOW executives: Chief Strategy Officer Pauline Shangett and Director of Strategic Partnerships Martin Masser.

Their presence at the event means relationships and partner conversations will be the events’ priority. And since the guest count is smaller, eventgoers will have a more direct way to engage with the team.

The event takes place after day one of TOKEN2049, which means attendees can use it as a time to unwind.

When is the Event Happening?

The event is set to happen on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. (Singapore time). A Singapore cocktail bar inspired by 1960s culture and design has been chosen as the event’s venue.

The bar’s name and exact address have not been made public since the location details will only be available to approved guests before the event. Registration for the event runs through Luma, but signing up does not guarantee entry.

Retrofuturism as the Theme

Retrofuturism is a theme that takes the aesthetics of the mid 20th century and creates an optimistic view of what people of that era thought about the future. Their version of the future had unique, space-age shapes, featured optimistic aesthetics and colorful vibes.

The 1960s bar setting where the event is taking place ties directly into this theme. The venue will also give a glimpse of experimental architecture. Eventgoers will also be able to take advantage of a capsule-inspired photo installation to be built specifically for the night.

ChangeNOW states that the reason for the theme is to connect the future visions of the past with crypto, a niche that is already marketed as a futuristic technology.

The Seed Phrase Question Behind the Takeaway

Once the event ends, every guest will leave with a limited-edition takeaway, which is built around a single question: if crypto had existed 60 years ago, how would you have kept a seed phrase safe until today?

ChangeNOW is giving its own answer. Guests will receive it right before they are done with the event.

A seed phrase refers to a set of words one uses to restore access to their crypto wallet. Losing it means losing access to the wallet for good.

Seed phrases appeared in their standard form in 2013, which means no one has needed to protect one for more than 13 years. But fast-forward six decades, and the usual storage methods would face more risks. That is why the question turns the playfulness of the retro theme into a serious point for the eventgoers.
