GRAM Surges as Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Announces Gram Wallet Rollout

Highlights

  • GRAM climbed after Telegram began rolling out Gram Wallet to selected users.
  • Pavel Durov said the wallet will reach Telegram’s billion-plus users over the next few weeks.
  • Gram Wallet will become Telegram’s default self-custodial wallet for transfers, payments and purchases.

GRAM (formerly Toncoin) has risen sharply after Telegram began rolling out its native Gram Wallet to a selected group of users. At press time, the GRAM token was trading near $1.40, up about 2.07% over 24 hours after the initial move pushed GRAM close to $1.45 before some gains were erased.

During the rally, the trading volume also rose about 137% as market activity increased around the announcement. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said access will expand gradually across the messaging platform as the company expects the wallet to reach its billion-plus users over the next few weeks.

Telegram Starts Gram Wallet Rollout

Gram Wallet is a self-custodial wallet designed to sit directly inside Telegram, which will become the default wallet option available through user settings.

Durov said Telegram would be “gradually rolling it out to our billion+ users over the next couple of weeks.” The launch follows earlier plans announced during the summer.

The wallet will support transfers, payments, and purchases across the Telegram ecosystem. Users will also be able to buy Telegram Collectibles, including usernames and digital gifts.

The service is designed around self-custody, so users retain control over their assets. Telegram is also promoting instant transfers and zero-fee transactions within the product.

Validators Approve Gram Wallet Smart Contract

According to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, validators have approved the smart contract that powers Gram Wallet. The structure is designed to avoid forced migrations during future wallet upgrades.

That setup allows developers to update the wallet without requiring users to move funds into new contracts. Telegram has presented this as part of a simpler self-custodial experience.

The rollout also follows Toncoin’s recent rebrand to Gram, as the change formed part of a wider effort to reposition the token around Telegram’s crypto ecosystem.

Wallet in Telegram Rebrands to Walt

Telegram is also separating its crypto products into two distinct services. Wallet in Telegram is rebranding as Walt and will no longer serve as the default wallet.

Gram Wallet will focus on payments and transfers, while Walt will offer broader investment and trading tools. However, according to the announcement, Walt will remain accessible through Telegram search.

Walt supports more than 300 crypto assets across four blockchains and offers trading for over 200 assets and more than 100 tokenized financial products.

Andrew Rogozov, founder and CEO of The Open Platform and Walt, said the service has expanded beyond its original wallet model. He cited Earn products, real-world assets and perpetual trading among recent additions.

GRAM Price Tests $1.42 Resistance

GRAM has recovered sharply from the $1.33 area and is now trading near $1.38 on the four-hour chart. The rebound came after buyers defended the lower end of the recent range and pushed price back above the Bollinger Band midpoint near $1.36.

The upper Bollinger Band sits close to $1.385, making that area the first short-term resistance. A clear break above it could strengthen the recovery and bring $1.40 back into focus. If momentum continues, the next major resistance sits near $1.45, where price recently left a long upper wick.

The ADX is near 29, which suggests the current move has moderate trend strength. As long as GRAM holds above $1.36, the short-term structure remains constructive. A drop below that level could send the price back toward $1.33 before another recovery attempt.
