COIN and CRCL Stock Prices Drop

Highlights

  • COIN and CRCL stock priced edged lower on Friday as the crypto market sentiment remained weak.
  • The downtrend could continue as the ICBA files a lawsuit against the OCC for issuing bank charters to crypto firms.
  • Coinbase and Circle are among the crypto firms that have reveived their national trust bank charters in 2026.

Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) and Circle (NYSE: CRCL) stock prices are in focus after the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) sued the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for issuing national trust bank charters to crypto firms.

The ICBA was the same banking group that lobbied against the CLARITY Act, saying that if the bill passed, it could cause deposit flight from community banks.

US Bank Lobby Group Files a Lawsuit Against the OCC

The lawsuit filed by the ICBA accuses the OCC of going beyond its regulatory threshold after issuing bank charters to firms offering crypto services.

The ICBA, which represents community banks that have less than $10 billion in assets, says that the OCC needs to revoke a recent rule that makes it easy for crypto firms to secure bank charters.

“ICBA is asking the court to return the OCC to its statutory limits. Any non-fiduciary ‌firm seeking the benefits of a federal bank charter should meet the same standards as community banks,” the bank lobby group said.

The lawsuit comes as several crypto firms, including Ripple, Coinbase and Circle, secure bank charters. In July, CRCL stock soared after the OCC granted a national trust bank charter to Circle.

Coinbase had also received its charter earlier in April 2026, with that approval also drawing criticism from US banks, as earlier reported by CoinGape.

CRCL Stock Forecast as Price Slips Below Crucial Support

The one-day chart for CRCL stock shows that the price has dropped below support at the 61.8% Fib of $86.

If this downtrend continues, CRCL stock price could move to the 38.2% Fib of $75.

The CMF reading of -0.21 also suggests that there is more selling pressure than buying pressure, and this could fuel the downtrend.

However, there might be reprieve for bulls because the ADX line is tipping south, to suggest that the downtrend that started in late September remains weak.

If the downtrend weakens, CRCL stock might establish support at $80.

COIN Stock as Price Loses 50W EMA Support

COIN stock price mirrored the CRCL drop on October 2, with the shares dropping by 3.32% to close trading at $183.

This drop pushed the stock below the support at the 50-week EMA of $198, suggesting that the short-term momentum is now favoring bears.

A continued downtrend will likely push Coinbase shares to the psychological support at $180.

However, a recovery could see COIN stock retest the 50W EMA as support before another bullish leg begins that pushes the price to the 100W EMA of $211.

COIN Stock Outlook Amid Recent Drop

The MACD indicator shows a mixed outlook. The MACD line is tipping north and remains above the signal line, albeit being negative. This suggests that while the momentum remains bearish, bears are losing their grip.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Why are CRCL and COIN stock prices dropping?

CRCL and COIN stock prices edged lower in the week ending October 2 as the bullish sentiment across the broader crypto market weakened. The recent lawsuit filed by a US bank lobby group is also dampening the sentiment.

2. Will the OCC revoke Circle and Coinbase bank charters?

The OCC could revoke the bank charters issued to Circle and Coinbase if the ICBA wins the lawsuit filed against the regulator. Such a move could push COIN and CRCL stock prices lower.

3. Why is the ICBA opposing bank charter issuance to crypto companies?

The ICBA says the OCC does not have the regulatory authority to issue bank charters to crypto firms because the firms do not meet the same standards as community banks.
