Crypto Fear and Greed Index Falls to 49 as Market Optimism Cools
Cryptocurrency market sentiment remained neutral as CoinMarketCap’s Crypto Fear and Greed Index registered 49, down from 50 yesterday. The reading also fell below last week’s 57, pointing to weaker confidence among market participants.

A month earlier, the index stood at 64, placing sentiment firmly within the greed category. The latest reading was down 15 points from that reading, reflecting a general easing of market optimism.
On August 27, 2026, the index hit its annual peak of 82 at the time when sentiment was at its extreme “GREED” level. Despite the recent decline, the current score remains neutral, suggesting neither fear nor greed has gained clear control.
Dogecoin Whales Add 600 Million DOGE Near Key Support
Dogecoin whales have accumulated about 600 million DOGE since October 12, according to cryptocurrency analyst Ali Martinez. In a post on X, Martinez said large holders appeared to be buying near a support zone.
4/6 Third, whales appear to be buying near that support.
Since October 12, large holders have reportedly added about 600 million $DOGE. Their accumulation adds weight to the buy signal and the on-chain support zone. https://t.co/NXhUxvPDWo

His accompanying chart showed tracked whale holdings reaching approximately 56.21 billion tokens.
He identified $0.081 as an important support level, where the daily TD Sequential indicator had issued a buy signal. He also cited blockchain data showing roughly 36 billion DOGE were previously acquired around that price.
The concentration of holdings helped explain his focus on $0.081 as a potential base for recovery. Martinez identified $0.16 to $0.17 as a possible profit-taking area if support holds and Dogecoin rebounds.
Dogecoin Price Prediction: Will DOGE Hold $0.08 Level?
The price of DOGE was trading at $0.08069 on October 17, continuing its downward trend but remaining above the support level.
The relative strength index was below the 50 neutral zone at 40.45. The moving average convergence divergence indicator also showed early improvement, with its MACD line slightly above the signal line.

A successful defense of $0.080 could support another attempt toward $0.08500. A sustained break above that resistance would bring $0.090 into focus as per the Long-term DOGE projection. Failure to reclaim $0.085 would leave Dogecoin exposed to further tests of the $0.08000–$0.07800 support area.
