XRP Price Forecast as Trump Weighs Ex-SEC Chief Behind Ripple Lawsuit for AI czar
Highlights
- XRP price is in focus amid reports that Jay Clayton could become the next AI czar.
- Clayton was the former chair of the SEC who authorized a lawsuit against Ripple on his last day in office.
- XRP ETF inflows are slowing after a strong week, as the spot buying presure also cools.
Ripple (XRP) is down by 0.9% today, September 30, to trade at $1.49 at the time of writing. The slight drop comes amid choppy moves across the broader crypto market, with Bitcoin (BTC) stalling at $83,000 while Ethereum (ETH) holds $2,600.
XRP is also in focus after President Trump revealed that he is considering appointing the former chair of the SEC, Jay Clayton, to the AI czar role.
Trump Considers Clayton for AI czar Position
While speaking to Axios, Trump said that Clayton would become a good AI czar, with his consideration for that position coming six months after David Sacks, who previously warned strict AI rules could slow innovation, resigned.
“I have somebody in mind… Clayton is a good man. He’s right here. That’s a good idea,” Trump said.
Clayton previously served as the Chair of the SEC up until December 23, 2020. He authorized a lawsuit against Ripple on his last day in office, where he categorized XRP as a security before Ripple won that lawsuit in August 2025.
The previous AI czar, Sacks, also served as a crypto czar, which suggests that if Clayton takes over this role, he could also help guide crypto policy decisions, especially after the CLARITY Act bill failed.
XRP ETF Inflows Slow as Open Interest Sheds $270M
Data from SoSoValue shows that there were zero inflows to XRP ETFs on September 29. The inflows so far for the week starting September 28 now stand at $3.96 million.
The slowdown comes after XRP ETFs recorded $75 million in inflows in the week ending September 25, with that being the highest weekly inflow seen in four weeks.

Data from CoinGlass also shows that the demand for XRP by futures traders is also slowing down after the open interest dropped by $270 million from $3.73 billion on September 28 to $3.46 billion at the time of writing.
Still, XRP’s OI-weighted funding rate remains positive, suggesting that there are more long accounts than short accounts as more futures traders bet that XRP price will extend gains.
XRP Price Slips Below Key Support as Momentum Weakens
XRP price had dropped below the psychological support at $1.50 on the four-hour chart at the time of writing.
The drop comes as the RSI reading of 45 suggests that the momentum is favoring bears.
However, the RSI line that has crossed above the signal line has also created a buy signal, and if this lures buyers back into the market, XRP price could target the 78.7% fib of $1.57.

Still, the CMF line that is negative and tipping south suggests that the selling pressure is still outweighing the buying pressure.
If sellers remain dominant on the four-hour XRP timeframe, the price could drop to the 38.2% Fib of $1.40.
