Trump Media crypto treasury strategy is getting a major overhaul. The company behind Truth Social reported a $238 million net loss for Q2 2026, driven largely by $190.4 million in unrealized losses on digital assets and equity securities, and it now plans to manage that volatility far more aggressively going forward.
From $406M Q1 Blow to a $238M Q2 Hit
Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) filed its Q2 earnings on August 10, 2026, disclosing a $238 million net loss. That follows an even steeper ~$406 million Q1 loss, which was almost entirely tied to crypto markdowns.
Revenue, however, climbed sharply year-over-year to approximately $1.7 million, signaling traction in the core media business even as the balance sheet bled.
At the close of June 30, the company held 9,477 BTC, with 4,260 BTC pledged as collateral for convertible notes and another 2,077 BTC backing an options strategy.
The quarter was relatively static for Bitcoin accumulation, but July changed everything.
The company sold $159.6 million in Bitcoin-related securities in July and redeployed the proceeds into direct BTC purchases. By July 31, total holdings, including pledged Bitcoin, reached approximately 14,139 BTC, valued near $890.5 million.
That shift toward heavier direct BTC exposure mirrors a trend playing out across the corporate treasury space.
Michael Saylor’s Strategy recently sold 1,690 BTC to fund STRC share buybacks, a sign that even the most committed corporate Bitcoin holders are now actively managing their treasury positions rather than simply accumulating.
Strive Asset Management took the opposite route, adding 147 BTC to push its total holdings to 20,167 BTC, illustrating just how varied corporate Bitcoin strategies have become in 2026.
What the Crypto Treasury Reset Actually Means
Trump Media’s new framework has four stated goals: preserve long-term crypto exposure, actively manage volatility through hedging and yield strategies, improve balance-sheet productivity, and redirect more resources toward Truth Social, Truth+, and the Truth API data-licensing business.
The company confirmed it is already using options to generate premium income on its BTC holdings and deploying a portion through lending and yield-generating arrangements.
It also flagged the counterparty credit risks that come with those approaches, warning that unsecured arrangements could result in unrecoverable losses if a third party defaults.
The reset also comes after the mutual termination of its planned large-scale CRO (Cronos) treasury deal with Crypto.com and Yorkville, which the company cited market conditions and shifting priorities as reasons for abandoning.
Trump Media crypto treasury watchers will note this is a meaningful pivot: the company is no longer chasing scale through new token positions, but shoring up what it already holds.
For context on what the broader regulatory environment looks like for companies making these kinds of capital allocation decisions.
The SEC recently scheduled a meeting to consider new rules for crypto investment contracts, a development that could shape how public companies account for and disclose digital asset holdings going forward.
Marathon Digital’s sale of $1.6 billion in BTC earlier this year shows that even mining-native holders are recalibrating. DJT’s move signals the same maturation.
The era of pure accumulation is giving way to active Trump Media crypto treasury management, one that weighs yield, collateral, and downside protection as seriously as Bitcoin price upside.
