CheapAir finds its Bitcoin payment processor after Coinbase trouble

CheapAir.com, an American travel online agency has been looking for a replacement for its Bitcoin Payment Processor which has been previously served by Coinbase. A few months back, the travel agency started its search for a new processor as Coinbase shut down their merchant platform.

The company has been reportedly facing challenges in finding the replacement of Coinbase. It even asked its customers for a feedback on this switch, which provided them with a number of options stating,

“I cannot tell you how grateful I am for the overwhelming amount of thoughtful feedback we received. We went into the process thinking we were on a desperate quest to find a new processor.”

CheapAir has been working with Coinbase since 2013 as a third party processor to accept Bitcoin as a payment option. Apart from Bitcoin, the agency also supports Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Litecoin (LTC) and Dash (DASH) for which it is still using GoCoin processor.

But after Coinbase informed the company of shutting their merchant platform in April, they have been scrambling for an alternative.

However, the travel agency is forgoing the route of processor completely as put by them “we don’t need a processor at all”. For the past one month, it has been testing BTCPayServer, which is an open source Bitcoin payment processor.

“Digital currency is a win-win situation”

Suggested by several of their customers, CheapAir is happy with the results from this processor as it complemented BTCPayServer contributors along with Nicolas Dorier and Predrag T, “you’ve built a truly great product.”

In its official blog, the team shares,

“Although there was a slight learning curve at first, and some engineering work to create the flow to turn crypto from you into dollars for airlines and hotels, we are thrilled with the end result.”

The agency is finding it liberating to no longer be dependent on a third party after having the trouble with Coinbase. BTCPayServer also enables them to bypass the “controversial BIP-70 wallet requirement” of BitPay.

BTCPayServer is helping them in gaining more control of the process, further facilitating faster and efficient order processing. The team also clarifies that this option allows them to handle the inherent anomalies in crypto commerce.

Despite encountering an obstacle with Coinbase’s action, CheapAir is continuing the cryptocurrencies route as it says,

“We believe that accepting digital currency has been a win-win for both CheapAir and our customers. So we decided to double down without reservation.”

The travel agency has jumped all in, into the crypto market as it has also set up a dedicated support team for crypto customers.
