Highlights

  • Blockchain.com joins Nigeria SEC’s ARIP after meeting initial requirements for participation in the regulatory sandbox.
  • ARIP allows Blockchain.com to test eligible crypto services under ongoing SEC supervision and compliance requirements.
  • Nigeria approval follows Blockchain.com regulatory authorizations in the UK, European Union and Cayman Islands markets.

Blockchain.com has gained admission to Nigeria’s SEC regulatory incubation programme, allowing the crypto platform to operate within a defined sandbox as regulators assess its services, safeguards and compliance standards.

Blockchain.com Joins Nigeria SEC Regulatory Sandbox

Blockchain.com has entered the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission’s Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme, known as ARIP. The admission confirms that the company met the SEC’s initial requirements for participation in the regulatory programme.

The approval allows Blockchain.com to operate within the sandbox’s defined scope while meeting ongoing compliance rules, testing requirements and other conditions set by the SEC. The admission does not amount to unrestricted authorization for all crypto services in Nigeria.

Blockchain.com will work directly with the regulator during the incubation period. The SEC will assess its digital asset business model, operational safeguards and compliance procedures as Nigeria develops its wider regulatory framework for virtual assets.

Nigeria SEC Tests Crypto Services Through ARIP

Nigeria’s SEC established ARIP for Virtual Asset Service Providers and fintech companies seeking to operate under regulatory supervision. The programme allows the regulator to examine new business models before determining how they fit within longer-term rules.

ARIP also covers areas such as investor protection, operational risks and anti-money laundering controls. Companies participating in the programme must continue meeting the SEC’s conditions while regulators evaluate their activities.

“Nigeria is one of Africa’s most important digital asset markets and participating in the SEC’s ARIP is an important step forward in our long-term commitment to the country,” Blockchain.com General Manager for Africa Owen Odia said.

Odia added that the programme allows the company to work directly with the SEC in a controlled environment. Blockchain.com plans to use the regulatory pathway to expand its Nigerian operations while complying with the programme’s requirements.

Blockchain.com Expands Regulatory Approvals

The Nigerian admission follows several regulatory approvals secured by Blockchain.com in other markets. The company has registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority and received authorization under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework.

Blockchain.com also secured a Virtual Asset Service Provider licence from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority. The company has used these approvals as part of its strategy to operate under established regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.

Nigeria remains a priority market in Blockchain.com’s broader African expansion. Digital assets have gained widespread use in the country for trading, payments and transferring value.

Participation in ARIP gives Blockchain.com a regulated route to test and expand eligible services in Nigeria. The company will remain subject to SEC supervision and the programme’s operating conditions throughout the regulatory incubation process.
