Ethereum price drops 10% during the crash as price approaches the $3,150 accumulation base for potential dip interest.

Highlights

  • Ethereum price remains below crucial resistance at $2,700 amid a pullback across the crypto market.
  • The drop comes ahead of a consensus call for ETH developers on October 15 to discuss the upcoming Glamsterdam and Hegota upgrades.
  • Ethereum's exchange reserves have risen to a one-month high signalling a potential rise in selling pressure.
  • ETH ETFs have also seen ten consecutive days of outflows.

Ethereum (ETH) price briefly dropped below $2,500 on October 13 amid a surge of ETH inflows to exchanges. ETH ETFs have also recorded ten straight days of outflows as institutional demand weakens.

Ethereum’s price weakness comes ahead of talks by Ethereum developers to discuss various upgrades on the network.

ETH Developers to Hold Consensus Call This Week

On October 15, an All Core Devs Consensus Call will take place where ETH developers will go over the upcoming upgrades on the network: Glamsterdam and Hegotá.

The Glamsterdam upgrade, which seeks to improve the speed and efficiency of the Ethereum blockchain, is expected to roll out in Q4 2026.

As CoinGape reported, Ethereum began the public testnet activation on the Sepolia testnet on October 6. The Hoodi testnet will also go live later this month ahead of the mainnet launch.

The Hegotá upgrade is also set to launch in Q2 2027. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin earlier noted that Hegotá will be the last normal fork on the network before the focus shifts towards quantum resistance.

Ethereum Exchange Reserves Surge as ETF Outflows Soar

The amount of Ethereum available on exchanges has risen to the highest level since September 8, per CoinGlass data.

These reserves stood at 11.90 million ETH at the time of writing, with this being a notable jump from 11.54 million ETH on September 29. Per this data, Ethereum exchange reserves have increased by 360,000 ETH in just two weeks.

This rise suggests that investors are depositing Ethereum into exchanges, signalling a potential rise in selling pressure in the near term that could weaken a price gain towards $2,700.

Data from SoSoValue also shows that ETH ETFs have recorded ten straight days of inflows. In fact, the ETFs have not seen a single day of inflows in October 2026, with the month-to-date outflows now coming in at $720.19 million.

Ethereum Price Prediction as Bears Defend $2,700 Resistance

Ethereum left behind a fair value gap (FVG) on the weekly chart in mid-August after the price jumped from $1,800 to $2,5000 within one week.

Bears are currently testing the support at the top of this gap. If it does not hold, Ethereum price could drop to the midline at $2,148.

Ethereum price also sits at the 200-day EMA, with a close below this EMA also set to cause a bearish long-term Ethereum price forecast.

However, if ETH does not fall back to this FVG gap, the price needs to close above the 200-day EMA to confirm a trend reversal. Closing above this EMA could see bulls reclaim the resistance at $2,700.

The RSI reading at 57 suggests that the momentum is still favoring bulls, and this suggests that a gain towards $2,700 remains likely.
