Highlights

  • MARA stock price closed lower on August 5 after reporting a net loss of $611M in Q2 2026.
  • The loss came from a decline in the value of the company's Bitcoin holdings.
  • Mara Holdings has pivoted from full-scale BTC mining to AI infrastructure through multiple acquisitions.

Mara Holdings (NASDAQ: MARA) stock price dropped by 5.25% on August 7 to close trading at $10. The drop occurred after the company reported a net loss of $611.5 million in the period between April 2026 and June 2026 despite its pivot towards AI infrastructure.

MARA Stock Price Drops on Weak Earnings

MARA stock price has dropped to a new August 2026 low after the company reported that it made a net loss of $611.3 million, with this loss coming from a drop in the price of the company’s Bitcoin stash.

The company also reported that it holds 35,577 Bitcoin that are worth $2.1 billion. This makes it the fourth biggest public holder of BTC after Strategy, Metaplanet and Twenty One Capital.

The $611.3 million net loss that Mara Holdings reported during the quarter was also a notable drop from the net income of $808 million that the company reported in Q2 2025.

The revenue for MARA during the quarter also dropped by 27% from $238.5 million reported in Q2 2025 to $175 million in Q2 2026. The revenue was lower than the $208.37 million that Wall Street expected.

This drop comes despite Mara Holdings pivoting from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure after the company acquired a 64% stake in Exaion Holdings and announced a deal to acquire Long Ridge Energy for $1.5 billion.

A recent report by CoinGape also revealed that Mara Holdings purchased a large-scale powered land site in Texas in July 2026 that will be used to support high performance computing workloads such as BTC mining while expanding its footprint in AI infrastructure.

MARA Stock Price Prediction as Bearish Trends Persist

MARA stock price dropped from $12 on August 5 to close trading at $10 on August 6. The volume histogram bars that are red for two straight days suggest that this drop comes from an increase in selling pressure.

The RSI reading of 41 also suggests that the momentum is favoring bears. The RSI line is also tipping south to suggest that the bearish momentum around the crypto stock is becoming strong.

The MACD line has also moved above the signal line, with this also suggesting that bears are gaining strength.

If the price of MARA shares drops below the psychological support of $10, selling pressure could increase for the third straight day and push the stock to the April low of $7.

But if some traders begin to buy during the current dip and the stock closes above the resistance at $10 for three straight days, the price of the shares could gain to the July 31 high of $12.

Mara Holdings Announces Board Changes

Mara Holdings also recently appointed two new independent directors to its board: Craig Hart and Nancy Novak.

The appointments were also seen as a way of increasing the company’s presence in the AI sector because Hart previously served as the lead for power strategy at Avenue Capital Group.

Novak also served as the CEO of Compass Datacenters where she dealt with developing large-scale data centers.

In May, Cantor Fitzgerald raised MARA’s stock target from $10 to $14, saying that the higher rating was because of the company’s move to pivot from full-scale Bitcoin towards AI.
