Pi Network Price Prediction: Will Protocol 28 Activation on October 16 Trigger a PI Coin Rally?
Highlights
- Pi Network price holds above $0.08 with neutral momentum signals.
- Protocol 28 will be activated on October 16, helping to drive network reliability.
- Futures open interest decreases to $8.90 million, showing less participation.
Pi Network Price stands at around $0.0818 on October 9, just above the much-anticipated level of $0.08.
Bitcoin price crashed to $82,541, Ethereum near $2,502, and XRP at $1.40. The market capitalization of the entire cryptocurrency market is around $2.88 trillion. The focus now shifts to Protocol 28, pending its October 16 Mainnet implementation as traders watch for possible recovery indicators.
Protocol 28 Mainnet Activation Scheduled for October 16
The Pi Core Team has planned to activate Protocol 28 on Mainnet on October 16, 2026. To prepare for the network transition, node operators are required to upgrade to version 28.0 by October 13.
Protocol 28 is already being tested in Pi Testnet, and subsequently can be modified and tested before being integrated into the network managing actual balances. The staged rollout is after successful completion of Protocol 27 on Mainnet.
As stated by the team, Protocol 28 enhances the network to use the delayed transaction data during consensus. It also allows developers to update a set of smart contracts at once and manipulate stored data more securely.
Following the successful completion of the Protocol 27 upgrade on Pi Mainnet, Pi Testnet has upgraded to Protocol 28.
Protocol 28 improves how the network handles delays in transaction data and enables developers to upgrade groups of smart contracts at once and change stored data more safely as their applications develop.
All Node operators must upgrade their nodes to Protocol 28 by October 13, 2026, in preparation for the Mainnet Protocol 28 network upgrade on October 16, 2026.

On February 20, 2025, Pi released its Open Network, which allows its current Mainnet to connect to the outside world.
The Pi Core Team reports that Protocol 27 brought more secure and flexible smart contract authentication. The expansion of its changes widened the range of accounts and applications in authorizing transactions, and laid the groundwork for further development.
The next step in that evolution is Protocol 28, which enhances transaction processing and application upgrades, not just authentication. Nevertheless, the improvements of infrastructure do not necessarily generate a more robust token demand and prompt recovery of the market.
Pi Network Price Prediction: Will PI Coin Rally?
The short-term trend to observe is $0.08, as a long-term break below has the potential to prolong the ongoing weakness.
A rebound of over $0.085 would make the picture look better for the future PI Coin outlook. A more formidable resistance at around $0.09 and the psychological mark of $0.10.

The RSI stands at 40, which is a neutral momentum and not a resounding bullish indicator. The MACD is reported to be at -0.000 after rounding, and it has a sell signal, with little confirmation of an upside.
Pi Network Futures Open Interest Drops to $8.90 Million
The Pi Network futures market registered a reduced total exposure, although the token had a slight recovery in price. According to CoinAnk, open interest stood at $8.90 million, which is lower than 10.38 million a day ago.

The fall is an indication of reduced participation, though a falling price may also decrease the dollar value of unfixed contracts. Closures or liquidations of positions might have been a factor but the numbers themselves cannot prove either case.
