Kraken Rolls Out US Stock Trading to Eligible Users in EEA
European investors can now access over 7,000 US stocks, more than 700 xStocks, and 600 crypto assets through the Kraken Pro app or website, according to an official announcement by Kraken on August 18.
The crypto exchange began rolling out the services in Germany, the Netherlands, and France in recent days before fully broadening the launch across all EEA member countries.
With the launch, Kraken becomes the only crypto platform in the European Economic Area (EEA) offering both US stocks and tokenized xStocks of the same within a single, unified trading environment.
“With US-listed stocks and xStocks available side-by-side in a single regulated account, customers can choose how they access the same underlying exposure (whether through traditional shares or tokenized representation) without moving capital or changing platforms,” said Mark Greenberg, CCO of Payward.
Crypto Platforms’ Recent Expansion in Europe
Kraken has expanded significantly in the last two years, offering to provide US stocks and tokenized shares along with its crypto trading services. Notably, access to US stocks was complex, fragmented, and expensive, limiting investor interest and adoption.
Also, xStocks has surpassed $38 billion in total transaction volume since launching recently. Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY), an authorized MiFID investment firm, to not charge commissions for US stocks trading. However, other fees, including spreads and FX costs, may apply.
Recently, Kraken introduced an in-app call verification feature that lets users confirm they’re speaking with genuine support agents. This new security feature to help the platform fight crypto scams.
As CoinGape reported earlier, Coinbase launched crypto, futures, perpetuals, and options derivatives trading for professional investors in the UK. The crypto exchange secured a MiFID license from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) last month.
This expansion aligns with a broader trend of platforms securing licensing to operate as fully regulated crypto exchanges in Europe ahead of strict local mandates.
