Bipartisan lawmakers are set to meet today to work on a middle ground for Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act on Capitol Hill. The largest remaining issue is ethics provisions. Meanwhile, the discussion around decentralized finance is also ongoing in the talks.

CLARITY Act In Focus As Senators Set To Meet In Capitol Hill

Eleanor Terrett, a popular crypto journalist, wrote on X, “Bipartisan discussions are taking place on Capitol Hill today relating to ethics, I’m told.” She also mentioned that negotiators are considering additional provisions for DeFi, albeit ethics is the primary point of consideration.

Terrett also provided an update from Senator Cynthia Lummis’ office on the CLARITY Act. A White House spokeswoman said last week’s White House meeting “went well.” Furthermore, the spokesperson said that “the ethics text set to release in the coming days will reflect that productive conversation.”

Legislators have also been continuing talks regarding protection of customers. According to reports, the latest alterations enhance cyber asset consumers’ protection. But more specific details are not yet available.

Coinbase Vice Chair Ryan VanGrack summed up the new provisions as “more teeth” to the crypto bill. The changes reflect the gaps in the existing framework of digital asset users, he said. He didn’t detail the new requirements added.

Also, Senate Majority Leader John Thune is hopeful that negotiations will reach a positive conclusion. There is a “good chance” lawmakers can come to an agreement, he said. Nonetheless, he also warned that discussions may change course.

Meanwhile, GOP lawmakers are maneuvering for a quorum of Democratic votes before moving. Leaders in the Senate have suggested they would like a bipartisan deal first before holding a Senate floor vote for the CLARITY Act.

There are 53 Republican seats up for grabs in the Senate. They will still require at least seven Democrats to beat the Senate’s 60-vote rule. That has brought more Democratic control over language on ethics and consumer protection.

Trump Agrees To Ethics Provisions

There have also been advancements on a number of rules covering elected officials and digital assets. The provisions came into question after some concerns regarding potential conflicts between public officials and crypto-related activities.

As reported by CoinGape previously, President Donald Trump accepted the ethics provisions in the CLARITY Act because of latest negotiations. The final language has yet to be published. The conditions that will be applied will be clear once senators release the new text of the law.

Senator Kevin Cramer also shared the progress. Negotiators have agreed on the ethics language, he said. Instead of state AGs, the Justice Department would implement those provisions, Cramer said. He also said, “I believe we’re almost at the finish line.
