Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Calls for Passing the Clarity Act
Brad Garlinghouse took to X and urged the US Congress to pass the Clarity Act, after Democrats opposed the latest crypto bill text. Ripple CEO echoed CLO Stuart Alderoty’s comments that “perfect can’t be the enemy of good.”
Alderoty asserts the Clarity Act is a consumer protection bill, with strong AML/KYC, tools for law enforcement and state attorneys general. “Leave it on the table and consumers are left twisting in the wind with the status quo with no clear standards for bad actors to exploit,” he added.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and CLO Alderoty seek support from senators to pass the Clarity Act, saying “Let’s get this done!” Ripple CLO earlier claimed that a vote against the Clarity Act would leave the crypto market unregulated, risking being exploited by bad actors.
Clarity Act Ready for Senate Floor Vote: Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also ramped up pressure, stating the bill is “ready for a full Senate floor vote.” He claimed the crypto bill marks a “true bipartisan compromise.”
Armstrong argued that the lack of a comprehensive federal regulatory framework leaves customers vulnerable, citing the FTX collapse. He added that the Clarity Act helps keep US leadership in the crypto industry.
Crypto can’t be uninvented at this point, so whether you love crypto or hate crypto, you should want clear federal laws. And it’s also simply good politics: 70% of American voters say the U.S. should have already passed comprehensive crypto legislation.
Coinbase CEO urges senators to pass the crypto bill as it fixes consumer protections as well as SEC and CFTC’s jurisdictional oversight.
John Thune Plans Full Senate Vote on Crypto Bill Next Week
Senate Majority Leader John Thune plans to force a vote on the Clarity Act as early as next week, even without bipartisan backing. The crypto bill needs 60 votes to pass the Senate before it heads to the House for a review and then to President Trump for signing.
Democratic Senator Angela Alsobrooks, Booker, Cortez Masto, Gallego, Hickenlooper , Warner, and Warnock opposed the Clarity Act’s ethics provisions in the new crypto bill text. They are also unhappy with several other areas of the bill, including its illicit finance and conflicts of interest provisions.
Moreover, the odds of the Clarity Act passing this year also dropped to 39% from above 50% in just a day. This happened amid the growing opposition from Democrats over several unresolved issues in the crypto bill text.
