Vote Against the Clarity Act Leaves Crypto Unregulated: Ripple CLO Stuart Alderoty

Ripple CLO Stuart Alderoty said voting against the Clarity Act would cause bad actors to continue exploiting the current unregulated crypto environment.

“We’ve seen this movie. Let’s not watch the sequel,” he added in reference to the FTX collapse. The comment comes as the Clarity Act is set to advance for full Senate floor voting by July end.

“The same regulatory gaps that let bad actors like FTX collapse and wipe out customer funds are still wide open today,” Lauren Belive, Global co-Head of Public Policy and Government at Ripple.

The Clarity Act would close regulatory gaps, particularly regarding the CFTC and SEC’s jurisdiction over the crypto market. It would also ensure regulatory oversight before tokens hit the market.

In addition, President Trump and senior White House officials are expected to meet with senators today. The meeting would likely focus on resolving the Clarity Act’s ethics provisions.

“I’m hoping that we can come up with some agreement by the end of this week,” said Senator Thom Tillis.

House Financial Services Committee‘s Hearing on the Crypto Law

The U.S. House Financial Services Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on July 17. This marks the first meeting following the July recess.

The hearing is titled “Building the Future of Finance: How the CLARITY Act Unlocks Innovation.” This will help support the US in maintaining leadership in blockchain technology and digital assets.

It would also advance the American Reserve Modernization Act for the proposed Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Participants will provide input on the Clarity Act’s potential to drive financial innovation following its earlier progress in the Senate Banking Committee.

The Polymarket prediction market shows that odds of Clarity Act signed into law in 2026 plunged to its lowest-ever level and now hold around 36%.

The crypto market structure bill already faces delays amid negotiations over ethics rules and a tight legislative timeline ahead of the August recess.
