$1.80 trillion global asset manager Franklin Templeton has partnered with Hong Kong-based HashKey Exchange to offer its tokenized money market fund to digital asset investors across Asia.

Franklin Templeton Launches its Tokenized Money Market Fund in Asia

Franklin Templeton has launched its Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Liquidity Fund (grBENJI) on the HashKey Exchange Earn Channel. This allows Asian investors to gain exposure to the tokenized fund.

The fund invests mainly in U.S. government money market instruments and U.S. dollar cash assets. It is available only to professional investors and is not open to the general public in Hong Kong. The collaboration expands Franklin Templeton’s tokenized fund offerings in regulated crypto markets across Asia.

This also strengthens HashKey’s Earn ecosystem with regulated tokenized investment products and deepens collaboration with leading global asset managers.

Franklin Templeton’s SVP of digital assets client engagement Chetan Karkhanis called the launch a key step in reaching HashKey’s growing base of digital assets-focused clients and institutional investors.

“We are excited to launch our tokenized money market fund on the HashKey Exchange platform. Leveraging blockchain technology, the Fund provides investors with enhanced transparency, security, accessibility, speed, and cost efficiency,” he said.

Plans to Expand Offering Other Tokenized Products

The partners aim to deepen collaboration by moving beyond money market funds into other tokenized products over time. Franklin Templeton plans to leverage HashKey’s multi-jurisdictional platform covering Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, and Bermuda.

Franklin Templeton secured SEC clearance to put tokenized assets inside traditional investment funds. The money market fund BENJI can now be held as collateral inside ETFs and mutual funds, bringing tokenized assets into portfolios. The move could take effect as early as Q4 2026.

Recently, Franklin Templeton’s SVP Mike Reed told CoinGape about the firm’s journey into tokenization by embracing blockchain technology. Reed revealed the Wall Street giant’s approach and strategy towards digital assets.
