Highlights

  • Truth API gives financial firms licensed, real-time access to top Truth Social posts.
  • Trump Media says the service will replace unauthorized scraping with paid data access.
  • Ethics concerns rose because Trump often posts official updates on Truth Social.

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is launching a paid Truth Social data service for financial firms, giving subscribers real-time access to posts from top accounts on the platform, including accounts followed closely by traders and newsrooms.

Truth Social API Targets Financial Firms

Trump Media said the new Truth API will provide licensed, real-time access to posts from the highest-ranking Truth Social accounts. The service is aimed at financial services companies, news organizations, and other firms that track fast-moving political and market information.

The company said the product will give customers “immediate, verified access” to Truth Social posts. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said the service is designed to replace unauthorized scraping with a licensed feed that offers faster access to platform data.

McGurn also pointed to the market role of Truth Social posts, saying, “Markets already move on Truth Social posts.” TMTG plans to use the product to build recurring revenue beyond advertising and subscriptions despite the CLARITY Act facing delays due to Trump’s involvement.

Other social media platforms also sell API access to financial firms and data companies. Hedge funds, trading desks, and financial media groups often use these feeds to monitor public posts that may affect stocks, commodities, currencies, or policy-sensitive assets.

Trump Posts Add Market Attention

President Donald Trump regularly uses Truth Social for public statements, including posts on tariffs, foreign policy, and government decisions. His account remains the largest on the platform, with 12.9 million followers on Thursday morning.

Trump Media, which has been linked to selling massive amounts of Bitcoin, did not mention Trump in its release announcing the API. However, his account remains central to the platform’s relevance because financial firms closely monitor presidential communications for potential market-moving signals.

The Trump family is the largest shareholder in Trump Media (TMTG), which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker DJT. SEC filings show roughly 114 million shares were issued to Trump, later transferred to a revocable trust in Donald Trump Jr.’s name after Trump won the presidency.

The Truth Social API launch comes amid wider scrutiny of Trump’s market-moving posts. A CNN investigation reported that Trump promoted more than 20 companies on Truth Social shortly after stock purchases tied to those firms appeared in his financial disclosures, despite the White House denying any conflicts.

Ethics Questions Follow Paid Data Launch

The paid data feed has drawn scrutiny because Truth Social has become a major outlet for presidential communications. According to CNBC, Virginia Canter, an ethics attorney with Democracy Defenders Fund, called the arrangement “a huge conflict of interest”.

Canter said Trump has a public duty to share information widely, while the new API routes fast access through a private company tied to his family’s holdings. She added that Truth Social has become the “de facto presidential press room”.

Financial firms already use similar feeds from other platforms to build trading models and monitor market sentiment. Truth Social’s difference is its link to official posts from the sitting president, whose $1.4B 2025 crypto earnings are still under scrutiny, and other senior US officials.
