Just-In: Kalshi Debuts Solana Perpetual Futures Trading After XRP
Highlights
- Following its recent XRP perpetual contracts rollout, Kalshi has now launched perpetual futures trading for Solana.
- The CFTC-regulated platform is providing zero fee trading for a short time period to attract traders.
- The introduction of perpetual futures on Solana may help enhance market liquidity.
Kalshi has announced the launch of Solana (SOL) perpetual futures trading on its platform. This represents another new addition to its line of CFTC-regulated perpetual contracts in the United States.
Kalshi Launches Solana Perpetual Futures
The prediction market platform shared the news on the social media platform X. It noted, “SOL Perpetuals are now live for trading. Only on Kalshi.” The team also announced that it would allow traders to use the new product for free for a specific period without any trading charges.
The debut coincides with Kalshi’s recent launch of XRP perpetual futures. The products were launched under the trademark “American Perpetuals,” which aims to offer perpetual futures contracts to U.S. traders in a regulated environment.
For context, perpetual futures are similar to traditional futures, the difference being there is no expiration date. This is to enable traders to hold on to their trades with less rolling of contracts forward. The products are supervised by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of the United States, according to Kalshi.
Solana’s arrival follows its debut of Ethereum and XRP perpetual futures contracts. Previously, Kalshi had been granted permission by the CFTC to launch Bitcoin perpetual futures.
The SOL perpetual futures launch could boost Solana’s liquidity with a surge in trading volume from the U.S. market.
More Altcoin Perp Contracts To Be Released Soon
The company had previously filed applications for digital currencies like Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Stellar (XLM), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Hedera (HBAR). CFTC has been scrutinizing these contracts one by one prior to their listing with Ethereum marking the first launch.
Kalshi revealed that XRP and Solana perpetual futures are also cleared now. Other perpetuals based on XLM, DOGE, SHIB, and HBAR will be added to the decentralized futures platform in the next few days. It recently also filed for Hyperliquid-based perpetual contracts, which could go live too upon approval.
In the meantime, the U.S. CFTC is looking to propose new rules to govern prediction markets.
