Trump Accused of Promoting Nvidia, Tesla, Apple Days After Buying Their Stocks
Highlights
- A CNN investigation revealed at least 20 times when President Trump promoted a company just days after buying their stock.
- This has raised scrutiny over the president using his office for personal gains.
- The CLARITY Act is notably facing an obstacle over the president's crypto profits.
An investigation has revealed that President Donald Trump promoted several companies, including Nvidia, Tesla, and Apple, just days after buying their stocks. This has further raised questions about ethics and conflicts of interest, and notably comes as the CLARITY Act faces questions over the inclusion of an ethics provision that curbs the president’s involvement in crypto.
President Trump Promoted Companies Days After Buying Their Stocks
According to a CNN report, an investigation it conducted revealed that the president promoted more than 20 companies on his Truth Social account just days after buying stock in those firms. This includes announcements of government actions that could benefit the companies he invested in.
These companies notably include Nvidia, Tesla, and Apple. One instance was President Trump’s 2025 post announcing that his administration would expedite the issuance of all necessary permits that Nvidia and similar companies needed to build AI supercomputers in the U.S.
CNN reported that the president had purchased between $200,000 and $500,000 in Nvidia stock just days before he made this announcement. The timing of this revelation is consequential, as it comes at a time when President Trump faces criticism for potentially using his office for personal gain.
It also follows the release of the president’s 2025 annual financial disclosure, which showed that he made up to $1.4 billion from the crypto industry. The disclosure has already renewed calls for an ethics provision in the CLARITY Act to curb his involvement in crypto.
The CNN investigation is already drawing ethics scrutiny and comments about President Trump’s abuse of power. In an X post, Rep. Rosa DeLauro said, “Profits for him and his billionaire friends, higher prices for you.”

Unaware of Stock Trades, White House Says
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly signaled that President Trump isn’t aware of these trades, noting that Trump’s assets are “held in fully discretionary accounts managed by independent third-party financial institutions.” As CoinGape reported earlier, the president also said that fund managers manage his investments as he defended his market profits.
Meanwhile, President Trump denied knowledge of his crypto earnings, although he added that there was nothing illegal if he knew. CNN noted that the president has not placed his assets in a blind trust. As such, he can still be aware of what his fund managers are buying and selling.
Talks about the ethics criticisms are likely to be in focus as President Trump meets with senators today to discuss progress on the CLARITY Act. It is worth noting that the dispute over the inclusion of an ethics provision is currently the major obstacle to a bipartisan agreement to pass the crypto bill.
