U.S. President Donald Trump has been propping up the crypto industry. He stated that the US should continue to be a digital assets leader. He made these remarks as the Senate remains stalled on a major crypto market structure bill, the CLARITY Act.

Trump Reacts To CLARITY Act Delay

Trump said in an interview with Punchbowl News that it was possible for global competitors to benefit from U.S. crypto innovation lagging behind. He singled out China’s aspirations in the industry.

“We don’t want to see China take over crypto,” Trump said. He said the U.S. needs to maintain its dominance in the digital asset space. Several countries are racing to become the No. 1 in the industry, he added.

The comments follow as lawmakers continue to split their votes on the CLARITY Act. The bill has gotten bogged down in the Senate. Discussions have been ongoing on pivotal issues. These include ethics rules, provisions on illicit finance and other issues not resolved.

Trump also attacked ethics proposals that would limit the ability to participate in crypto businesses or his family’s businesses during his tenure. The rules would unfairly target him versus other political figures, he said.

“Well, I don’t mind putting it in a blind trust,” Trump said. He added, “I don’t run my stuff anyway. I let my kids run it.”

He explained that he does not speak with his kids about government things. His priority is to ensure the U.S. is competitive in new industries, he added.

Trump also noted the significance of cryptocurrencies for the nation’s strategy. He likened it to AI. Both sectors have the potential to influence the future global economy, he said.

China Taking Over The Crypto Lead?

“If China took over crypto, which they would love to do, or if China took over AI, which they would really [want],” Trump said. Moreover, he insisted the U.S. should remain a leader in both areas.

The president stated that his administration has contributed to bolstering the country’s stance in digital assets. He stated that the U.S. is now leading in several technology areas.

Trump also rejected claims that tightened crypto regulations are required to be supervised. The restrictions could stifle innovation and give foreign rivals an edge, he said.

“Crypto is a big deal,” Trump said. He also said that other nations are seeking control of the industry.

The remarks were made as Senate members grapple with disputes with the CLARITY Act. This bill is still an important issue for crypto enthusiasts. Its goal is to set out new standards for digital asset trading.
